Algocyte Wins 3rd Prize at The Next Unicorn Europe

The 3rd place awarded to Algocyte created by Oxford Immune Algorithmics

We are proud to announce that Algocyte has won 3rd place at The Next Unicorn Europe, a week-long competition held in Ibiza to identify some of the most promising startups with the potential to become Europe’s next unicorns.

The Next Unicorn, hosted during the Ibiza Tech Forum and connected to the global Startup World Cup in San Francisco, brings together high-potential startups, international investors, and a distinguished jury. For Algocyte, this recognition is further validation of our mission: to make early disease detection and regular personalised health monitoring more accessible by combining subjective data, such as symptoms, contextual data, including lifestyle and wearables, and objective medical data through an ultraportable AI-informed blood testing device.

This recognition followed a demanding selection process:

⁍ From more than 600 startups across Europe
⁍ To 25 finalists selected for the week-long programme
⁍ To a second round with 16 participants
⁍ To the final 6 startups
⁍ And finally, to the top 3 awarded companies

Pitching session

The winners were announced last night at Cova Santa, in a remarkable ceremony held inside one of Ibiza’s most extraordinary cave venues. The setting gave the final celebration a dramatic, almost ritual-like atmosphere, marking the end of an intense week of pitching, investor engagement, due diligence, and competition.

The decision was made by a jury of 6 world-class entrepreneurs, including family office leaders and former sharks from editions of Shark Tank, following multiple pitches and due diligence sessions throughout the week.

Algocyte®, incubated by Oxford University Innovation and spun out from Cambridge and King’s College London, is building the AI healthcare companion of the future. It combines the storage and analysis of subjective data, such as symptoms, contextual data, including lifestyle and wearable signals, and objective medical data generated through its patented ultraportable physics-informed AI medical instrument for blood testing.

By integrating these layers of information, Algocyte leverages causally grounded AI to track individual immune systems over time, supporting differential diagnosis, precision healthcare, and predictive medicine. The goal is to help shift healthcare from reactive sick management to actual proactive healthcare.

Healthcare is still too often reactive. People are tested when symptoms become serious, when a condition has already progressed, or when a periodic appointment happens to capture a problem. Algocyte is being built around a different principle: that health should be monitored longitudinally, intelligently, and personally.

Rather than relying only on population averages or isolated snapshots, Algocyte is designed to learn from each person’s own baseline over time, helping identify meaningful deviations that may signal early changes in health, disease risk, immune response, or treatment trajectory.

We are especially proud that all three winning companies are in the healthcare space, reflecting the strength and urgency of innovation in predictive, preventive, and personalised medicine. Congratulations to IKI Health Group, winner of 1st place, and Amilis, winner of 2nd place, as well as to all the finalists, whose projects and leadership were truly impressive. Europe will be strongly represented at the global final in San Francisco.

The 25-startups stage

We are grateful to the organisers of The Next Unicorn and Ibiza Tech Forum, to the jury, investors, mentors, and partners who made the programme possible, and to everyone who supported Algocyte throughout the competition.
